The course's character: the seminar = the final year's research course — the student's own legal research on a definite legal issue, supervised, presented and externally evaluated (the LL.B.'s capstone: the three years' learning applied to one original study). The objectives (the syllabus's own): to enable students to undertake research on definite legal issues; to acquaint students with practical knowledge in any area of law on which the student conducts the research — the objective is the researcher's formation, not a content syllabus (the paper has NO taught units: the student's own topic is the syllabus). The research-paper logic (the academic frame): the seminar as the apprenticeship of legal scholarship — the topic chosen, the question framed, the sources searched, the argument built, the paper written, the defence survived: the complete scholar's cycle in miniature.
