3 C. The successors to "Greater Nepal" (1775–1816)

1. Pratap Singh Shah (1775–77) — brief; the infant Rana Bahadur Shah's minority: the regent-queen Rajendra Laxmi (to 1785) and then Bahadur Shah (to 1794) — the great consolidation regencies: the west conquered up to the Karnali and beyond (the Chaubise reduced; Kumaon entered, 1790); the Nepal–Tibet wars (1788–92) over coinage and trade ended with the Chinese invasion (1792, under Fuk'anggan) and the Treaty of 1792 — Nepal's independence preserved, tribute-missions to Peking beginning (until 1908). 2. Rana Bahadur's own reign (to 1799) and Girvan Yuddha Vikram Shah (1799–1816) — the maximal state: Garhwal annexed (1804); Kumaon held; the far-west reached its limit at the failed siege of Kangra (1806–09) — "Greater Nepal" at its greatest: the Tista to the west beyond the Sutlej claims — in substance, the Mechi to the Satluj across the hills. 3.
