4 Dying declaration

A statement by a person as to the cause of his death, or the circumstances of the transaction that resulted in it, is admissible even though the maker cannot be cross-examined. The rationale is necessity (the only witness is gone) and the assumption that a person about to die does not lie. Courts nonetheless look for corroboration where the statement is the sole basis of conviction.
