4 Status of Adopted Child

1. Full filiation: the adopted child the adoptive parents' child for all purposes — succession both ways (the child inherits the adoptive family; the adoptive parents inherit the child), the name-and-citizenship consequences, the maintenance-and-parental-authority incidents; 2. The birth-family severance: the legal ties to the birth parents ended (the succession-and- maintenance consequences ended with the defined exceptions — the residual information-and- identity rights); the adoptive family's prohibited-degrees relations established (the future marriage bars of the adoptive relations); 3. The equality principle: no discrimination between the adopted-and-biological child (the Code's equal-status command — the child's legitimacy-and-equality protections mirroring the marriage-law rules).
