3.4 Rights and Duties of Pledgor/Pawnor

• Rights: to redeem the goods on payment of the debt, interest and lawful expenses (even after default, before an actual sale — the equity of redemption's spirit); to the goods' proper preservation; to receive back accretions; to notice before any sale on default; to the surplus if the goods are sold for more than the dues. • Duties: to repay the secured debt with interest; to disclose defects in the goods known to him (a defective pledge visits the pawnee's loss on the pawnor — the goods must be what they purport to be); to bear the reasonable preservation expenses; to indemnify the pawnee for injury from the goods' hidden defects.
