6.4 Soil: Nature and Importance

The nature: the earth's signature — the mineral-and-organic mix (the quartz-and-feldspar; the pollen-and-diatoms); the locale's uniqueness (the geology's variation). The importance: the presence's proof (the shoes'-and-vehicle's soil vs the scene's — the location's link); the route's reconstruction (the soil layers' sequence — the journey's story); the burial's faces (the grave's soil on the tool — the body-movement's proof). The examination: the colour (the comparison's start — the Munsell's discipline); the mineralogy (the microscopy, the grain's shapes); the organic (the pollen's-and-diatom's signature); the layer's comparison.
