4.9 Termination of Contract of Agency

1. Revocation by the principal — effective when known to the agent; the principal may not revoke where the authority is coupled with an interest (the agency given to secure the agent's own debt) nor after the authority has been partly exercised so as to affect third-party rights.2. Renunciation by the agent (reasonable notice).3. Completion of the agency's business / expiry of the term.4. Death or insanity of principal or agent (termination of the authority's foundation — third parties contracting without knowledge are protected).5. Insolvency of the principal (the agency's purpose fails).6. Dissolution of a company (principal or agent — corporate death), and destruction of thesubject-matter.7. The principal becoming an enemy alien (war's effect — name only). Continuingobligations: accounts and moneys in hand survive termination; the agent's lien endures until paid.
