6.4 The Viva-Voce

1. The committee: the three-member committee — each member with at least ten years'experience in teaching law, law practice, judgeship or public prosecution (the course's own rule); the 10 marks (10%) at stake.2. The questions' range: the paper's core (the method, the sources, the findings); the foundations (the paper's doctrinal base — the statute's provisions, the case's holdings); theextensions (the counter-positions, the reform's feasibility); the candidate's own reasoning (the "why did you..." probes).3. The viva's craft: the paper's mastery assumed — the defence's preparation is the paper's re- reading; the honest limits ("my research did not cover that" — better than the invented answer); the composure-and-courtesy; the citation's readiness (the source's location at hand).4. The evaluation's faces: the knowledge (the paper's-and-foundations' command); the reasoning (the questions' handling); the communication (the clarity); the integrity (the honest answers).
