4 Registration

Registration gives the aircraft a nationality and therefore a state responsible for its standards. The Convention requires each state to maintain a register, to register an aircraft in one state only, and to ensure that aircraft carrying its nationality comply with its rules. Registration is transferred only by deregistration in the old state — the practical problem at the centre of aircraft financing, where lenders need to know that their security will be registered and enforced.
