Grandson of Jayasthiti's line, Jayayakshya Malla ruled the whole Valley — the last to do so. His reign: relative peace, temple-building, and prestige abroad (he received envoys; the Valley's tradeflourished); tradition also credits him with campaigns expanding Malla overlordship westward across the Trishuli to the hills. On his death (1482), the kingdom was divided among hissons — Ratna Malla taking Kathmandu, Raya Malla Bhaktapur — and Patan emerged asa third seat: the Three Kingdoms period (Unit 4), with the Valley's infamous court intrigue and the later Gorkhali conquest as consequences. Exam line: the division of 1482 = Nepal's own version of the fragmentation the whole subcontinent knew — out of which, three centuries later, unification would come.
