The Aristotle of the Politics is the ancestor of the modern claim that rule of law is better than rule of man; the Plato of the Republic is the ancestor of every argument that government should be left to experts. Both arguments are still made, in constitution-making and in administration. In Nepal, the Supreme Court has repeatedly treated rule of law and constitutional supremacy as basic features of the Constitution that cannot be destroyed even by amendment — an Aristotelean proposition.
