Choosing a law degree in Nepal isn’t as simple as picking “LLB” anymore. Over the past decade, universities have introduced several integrated programs that combine law with arts, business, or economics, each with its own duration, eligibility, and career angle. Here’s a clear breakdown of what’s actually available, and which university offers what.
1. B.A.LL.B. — Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws (5 Years)
B.A.LL.B. is the most common integrated law degree in Nepal, combining humanities/arts subjects with core legal training over five years (ten semesters). It’s open to students straight out of +2 (10+2 or equivalent), making it the standard entry point for school leavers who want to go directly into law.
Offered by: Tribhuvan University, Purbanchal University, Pokhara University, Mid-West University, Lumbini Buddhist University, Rajarshi Janak University, Far-Western University, Gandaki University, and Madhesh University.
Where to study it: Nepal Law Campus (TU) remains the oldest and most well-known option, with 105 seats across three sections. Several other TU-affiliated colleges, along with colleges affiliated to Purbanchal, Pokhara, and the newer provincial universities, also run this program. In total, dozens of institutions nationwide now offer B.A.LL.B., with intake and fees varying significantly between government and private colleges.
Eligibility: Completion of +2 or equivalent, followed by an entrance exam conducted by the respective university.
2. LL.B. — Bachelor of Laws (3 Years, Postgraduate-Entry)
Unlike B.A.LL.B., the standalone LL.B. is a second-degree program: it’s meant for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and want to specialize in law afterward. It typically runs 3 years on a yearly (non-semester) exam system at TU-affiliated colleges.
Offered by: Tribhuvan University (across roughly a dozen constituent and affiliated colleges, including Nepal Law Campus, which alone has 600 seats) and Nepal Open University, which runs a distance-learning-friendly 3-year LL.B. for working professionals.
Eligibility: A completed bachelor’s degree (in any subject) from a recognized university, followed by an entrance exam.
3. BBM.LL.B. — Bachelor of Business Management, Bachelor of Laws (5 Years)
This is a specialized integrated program offered exclusively by Kathmandu University School of Law (KUSoL). It combines a full law degree with business management coursework — corporate accounting, finance, strategic management, and business law — aimed at producing lawyers equipped to work in the corporate and banking sectors, not just traditional legal practice.
Eligibility: Completion of +2 or equivalent (any discipline) with at least 50% aggregate or a 2.0 CGPA, followed by KU’s own entrance exam.
Career angle: Graduates are eligible for Bar membership like any other law graduate, but the program is specifically positioned toward in-house counsel roles at banks, insurance companies, and corporate houses.
4. BEc.LL.B. — Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Laws (5 Years)
Also unique to Kathmandu University School of Law, BEc.LL.B. pairs legal education with a strong grounding in economics, aimed at students interested in the intersection of law, policy, trade, and regulation.
Eligibility: Same general entry route as BBM.LL.B. — +2 completion followed by KU’s entrance exam.
5. BBA.LL.B. — Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Laws (5 Years)
BBA.LL.B. is a newer addition to Nepal’s legal education landscape, currently offered by Manmohan Technical University (MTU) through its constituent Manmohan Institute of Law in Biratnagar. It’s a five-year, ten-semester program (40 seats) approved by the Nepal Bar Council, combining business administration coursework with a full law degree — distinct from KU’s BBM.LL.B., though similar in spirit, blending management and legal training.
Eligibility: Completion of +2 or equivalent, followed by MTU’s entrance exam process.
Note: Since this is a relatively new program at a newer technical university, prospective students should confirm current seat availability, accreditation status, and admission timelines directly with Manmohan Institute of Law before applying.
Quick Comparison
- B.A.LL.B. — 5 years, open after +2, widest availability (TU, PU, and other provincial universities)
- LL.B. — 3 years, requires an existing bachelor’s degree, offered by TU and Nepal Open University
- BBM.LL.B. — 5 years, open after +2, Kathmandu University only, business/corporate law focus
- BEc.LL.B. — 5 years, open after +2, Kathmandu University only, economics/law focus
- BBA.LL.B. — 5 years, open after +2, offered by Manmohan Technical University (Manmohan Institute of Law)
Which One Should You Choose?
If you’re coming straight from +2 and want the broadest range of college options nationwide, B.A.LL.B. is the standard path. If you already hold a bachelor’s degree in another field and want to pivot into law, the 3-year LL.B. is built for exactly that. If you’re specifically drawn to corporate law, banking, or economic policy work, KUSoL’s BBM.LL.B. or BEc.LL.B. offer a more specialized track — though with far fewer seats and a single university offering them.
Whichever path you choose, admission across all these programs is entrance-exam based, so check each university’s admission notice for exact dates, application fees, and syllabus. We’ll keep posting updates here as new entrance notices are published.
