🔔 EXTENDED — forms still open (checked 2083/06/03): by the Council’s urgent notice dated 2083/05/16, the application deadline of the 35th Advocate Level Examination is extended because the Bhote Koshi (Lehnde Khola) flood of 2083/05/10 disrupted electricity and transport in Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Chitwan and surrounding districts. New deadlines: regular fee till 2083/06/04 (Asoj 4) and double fee till 2083/06/11 (Asoj 11). Examination: Mangsir 26 and 27, 2083 (two days, as in the 34th round). Admit card downloadable one day before the exam at exam.nepalbarcouncil.com.

✅ Who can apply
  • Candidates who have passed a Bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B / B.A.LL.B) from a recognised university, or
  • Holders of an Advocate (Abhibakta) certificate with continuous, up-to-date practice of up to 7 years with the Council.
  • Foreign law degrees need an equivalence certificate; Nepali citizenship is mandatory.

Documents to scan & upload
Law-degree transcript (labdhankit patra) + character certificate + citizenship certificate; equivalence certificate (if studied abroad); advocate certificate + 7-year practice proof (advocate route); recent passport-size photo with both ears visible; photo on plain white paper showing your signature and both-thumb impressions
Form-filling rules
Name and mother’s name must match the citizenship certificate exactly (DAO recommendation letter if certificates differ); current-address proof if it differs; each document uploaded once only; false information invites legal action
Exam centres
Bagmati → Kathmandu; other provinces → provincial capital / liaison-office location; provinces with fewer than 500 candidates sit in Kathmandu. Centre choice cannot be changed after submission.
🧮 Examination structure (31st-level-onwards curriculum)
Paper 1 — Constitution & Law (MCQ)
100 questions × 1 = 100 marks, pass 50, 1 hr 30 min; fundamental subjects 60 + specialised subjects 40; no negative marking; the MCQ booklet must be returned with the answer sheet
Paper 2 — Drafting + translation
Drafting 90 (civil plaint, criminal petition, litigation/writ — 3 × 30) + legal translation English↔Nepali 10 (5+5) = 100 marks, pass 50; 3 hr 30 min + 30 min; drafting precedents (nazir) and sample answer sheets at www.nepalbarcouncil.org.np
Paper 2 — existing advocates only
Advocates covered by the Council’s 2082/08/07 decision (certificate obtained and kept up to date): drafting only — civil, criminal and writ drafts, full marks 100, pass 45; no translation
Interview (written-passers only)
20 marks, pass 10: advocate code of conduct + Disciplinary Committee rules 5, advocacy limits & judicial discipline 5, debate art & ethics 10; at least 15 minutes including an 8-minute debate presentation
Internship + training
Minimum 30 working days internship under a supervisor with a satisfactory report, then a 3-day basic training after the final result — then the license
🇩🇵 Medium of examination: the advocate-level examination is conducted wholly in Nepali — prepare your drafting, translation and MCQ practice in Nepali legal language.
🚨 Exam-day rules
  • Admit card mandatory — no entry without it.
  • No entry 30 minutes after the start; no leaving the hall within the last hour.
  • Sit only at your allotted seat per the official seat plan.
  • No mobiles, calculators, Bluetooth devices, tablets, earphones or smart watches.
  • Black ink only on the answer sheet.
  • Mark the correct question set (key) on the MCQ sheet — forgetting this voids the paper; return the MCQ booklet.
  • Illness/disability: inform the centre chief at least one hour before; scribes with prior approval.
