Kathmandu School of Law was established in 2000 as a community-based, non-profit academic institution affiliated to Purbanchal University. It is QAA-accredited and was conceptualised within the non-profit movement to serve the need for academically sound and functionally feasible legal education in Nepal, with a commitment to pragmatic, research-based and community-responsive teaching.

Eligibility: C+ GPA or 50% marks in Plus 2 or equivalent; 3.5 GCE in the case of A-Level.

How admission works

  • Entrance examination is mandatory and comprehensive
  • A personal interview conducted by the college management is compulsory for all students, who must be accompanied by their parents or responsible guardians

Scholarship: PU runs a separate BALLB scholarship entrance examination each year for needy and deserving students, under the PU Scholarship and Scholarship Entrance Examination Procedure.

Class Schedule

  • First to Third Year (BALLB): day shift, 11:00 AM – 3:45 PM
  • Fourth and Fifth Year (BALLB): morning shift, 7:00 AM – 10:50 AM

Scholarships

  • Granted to two first-year students from Madhesi and Hill Dalit communities, covering one year's tuition fee or its equivalent; renewal depends on academic performance
  • Jeena Maharjan Student Advocacy Practice Stipend – awarded to one fifth-year female student pursuing an internship in advocacy, requiring a research report on Legal Ethics and the Art of Advocacy
  • Balaram Kafle Scholarship – for any student interested in studying Criminology
  • Fellowships require demonstrated commitment to research; otherwise the stipend is revoked and reimbursed
  • Need-cum-merit based scholarships are also offered
