Tribhuvan University’s Faculty of Law also offers a 5-year integrated Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Laws (B.A.LL.B.) programme under the Semester System (2025 A.D. curriculum). Unlike the 3-year LL.B., this is a combined BA+LLB undergraduate degree spread across 10 semesters.
The programme has 204 total credit hours (1 credit = 16 instructional hours) across 81 subjects — 61 compulsory and 20 optional. Of these, 19 subjects are Humanities and Social Sciences (concentrated in the first two years), with the rest belonging to law. To graduate, students must complete 59 compulsory and 5 optional courses. The medium of instruction and examination is English, and foreign students may take Alternative English in place of Legal Nepali.
Year 1 (Semesters 1–2) — Humanities & Social Science Foundation
Semester 1: Legal Method, Legal Nepali-I (or Alternative English), Legal English-I, Political Theory, Nepali History, Sociology, Economics-I
Semester 2: Jurisprudence-I, Legal Nepali-II, Legal English-II, Political Thoughts, Global History, Anthropology, Economics-II
Year 1 is essentially a general BA year with one law-oriented anchor course per semester (Legal Method, Jurisprudence-I). It builds general academic and English/Nepali legal-writing skills before law content ramps up.
Year 2 (Semesters 3–4) — Core Law Subjects Begin
Semester 3: Jurisprudence-II, Constitutional Law-I, International Relations and Diplomacy, Criminal Law-I, Public International Law-I, Property Law, Comparative Law
Semester 4: Criminal Law-II, Public International Law-II, Constitutional Law-II, Family Law, Law of Contract-I, Procedural Law-I, Nepali Legal System
Year 2 is where the law degree properly starts — constitutional, criminal, international, property, and contract law all begin here, each split across two semesters.
Year 3 (Semesters 5–6) — Corporate/Commercial Law + First Optional
Semester 5: Law of Contract-II, Criminology and Penology, Procedural Law-II, Company Law and Governance, International Institutions, Legal Research Methodology, + 1 optional (Juvenile Delinquency / Election Law / Securities Law / International Air and Space Law)
Semester 6: Corporate Law and Management, Intellectual Property Law, Human Rights Law, Interpretation of Law, Law of Torts and Consumer Protection, Seminar-I (Doctrinal), + 1 optional (Insurance Law / Socio-Economic Crime / International Humanitarian Law / Forensic Science)
Year 3 introduces the optional-subject system and the first research seminar, alongside corporate/IP law — a shift toward specialized and commercial practice areas.
Year 4 (Semesters 7–8) — Practical/Clinical Training Begins
Semester 7: Evidence Law, International Trade Law, Environmental Law, Clinical Law I (Alternative Dispute Resolution), Administrative Law, Labour Law, + 1 optional (Forensic Medicine / Fiscal Law / International Refugee Law / Media Law)
Semester 8: Law, Poverty and Development, Gender and Inclusive Justice, Moot Court-I (Civil Case), Private International Law, Cyber Law and Artificial Intelligence, Clinical Law-II (Conveyancing), + 1 optional (International Rivers and Sea Law / Natural Resources Law / Investment Law / Business and Human Rights Law)
Year 4 is where the degree turns hands-on: Clinical Law courses (ADR, Conveyancing) and Moot Court begin, alongside contemporary subjects like Cyber Law and Artificial Intelligence.
Year 5 (Semesters 9–10) — Capstone: Practice, Research, Placement
Semester 9: Moot Court-II (Criminal Case), Law of Banking and Negotiable Instruments, Legislative Drafting, Taxation Law, Seminar-II (Non-Doctrinal), + 1 optional (Energy Law / Victimology / Population Law / Competition Law)
Semester 10: Clinical Law-III (Placement), Social Work and Social Welfare Law, Professional Ethics and Lawyering Skills, Dissertation (6 credits)
The final year closes with a criminal moot, legislative drafting, a full placement/internship (Clinical Law-III), professional ethics, and a dissertation — the clearest practice-readiness capstone of the whole programme.
